Changes to Canadian Charitable Tax Law

There are some important upcoming changes to the tax law and reporting as it relates to Canadian Registered Charities effective January 1st, 2006. The Canadian Revenue Agency web site describes those changes. In reading those, there appears to be nothing that affects Theatre Manager. There are also long proposed changes to the actual tax receipts issued by an organization. Samples are found at www.cra-arc.gc.ca/tax/charities/pubs/receipts-e.html that show the content of the new receipts. We had previously implemented these suggestions about a year ago. However, there is a new data field required for gifts in kind that is the address of the person appraising the value of the gift. This is entered on the payment window.

With this amount of new data required on the charitable receipt, we have found that only the 3 per 8.5x11" page can support the amount of data. This also means that the 4 receipts per legal page has not been changed and that receipt option will likely not be in version 7. If you are using that smaller receipt option, please let us know.
