Copying the Database

*** This process needs to be run only if you are advised to do so by a support technician in proper authority. ***

Copying your database is used to correct data corruption that can not be fixed using the repair process. Copying the database is essentially rebuilding the database from ground up. This process can take upwards of 8 hours. This of course depends on the speed of the computer and the size of the database.

  1. Create a new directory / folder

When making a copy of the database the new database must be saved in a different folder from the original database. Locate the folder which contains your original database and insert a new subfolder. Label it Rebuild Folder or however you wish to define the folder. Click Here to learn how to create a new folder.

  2. Log on to Theatre Manager as a master user in single user mode

Logging on in single user mode simply means only one user is logged on to TM.

  3. Open the Setup Menu and select Data Utilities

This will open the Data Utilities Window.

  4. Click

The following window appears allowing you to identify the new folder you created and to define a name for the database copy.

  5. Locate the Folder created in Step #1 and set this as the active folder

Although the default "File name" is "Copy of XXXX.df1, you can rename your data file to suit your needs.

  6. Click

The Copy Database Parameters Window will open.

**It is recommended to accept the default settings unless otherwise advised by a support technician in proper authority.**

  7. Enter a "Save Orphan Records Connection Patron"

Enter the patron number of a patron where those records, which could note be found during the rebuild, will be assigned. This could be the Before Event Sale Patron or even your own personal patron record if you choose.

  8. Click

The rebuild process will begin and take approximately 8 hours or more to complete. This, again, of course depends on the speed of the computer and the size of the database.

  9. Exit Theatre Manager
  10. Create a folder to hold the old database
  11. Name it something like "OldDB-yy-mm-dd". By including the date you will know how old the database is and if it has been over 2 weeks without any problems it can be deleted.

  12. Move the original database to this folder
  13. Click Here for more information on moving the database.

  14. Move the database and ALL OF IT'S SECTIONS to your regular TM database location
  15. Click Here for more information on moving the database.

  16. Start Theatre Manager
  17. If you renamed your database to the original name you can login as ususal. If not you will have to use the change database button and navigate to the database.
